The University Executive Board (UEB)
The University Executive Board assists the Vice-Chancellor in performing his duties as the University’s Chief Executive Officer. It meets weekly and is responsible for developing and implementing strategy, operational plans, policies, procedures and setting budgets to drive the University towards its ambition of being recognised as a top 100 university internationally and a top 20 university in the UK. UEB also monitors the operating and financial performance of the University, so that it can respond to external pressures across the University’s academic areas.
The UEB consists of the Vice-Chancellor (Chair), Deputy Vice-Chancellor, three thematic Pro Vice-Chancellors; three College Pro Vice-Chancellors, the Chief Operating Officer, Director of Finance, and the Director of Human Resources, Safety, Health & Environment. Professor Colin Riordan: Vice-Chancellor & President
As the University’s Chief Executive Officer, responsibility for:
- Overall leadership and management of the University
- Overall financial and academic vitality of the University
- Promoting and advocating the University globally, nationally, and locally
- Upholding excellent standards of accountability across the University, and excellent standards of corporate governance
- Accountable to Parliament for the use of the University’s funds

Professor Elizabeth Treasure: Deputy Vice-Chancellor
Deputising for the Vice-Chancellor in his absence, assuming in such circumstances all of the duties and responsibilities of the Vice-Chancellor, with specific responsibilities including:
- Strategic oversight of resource allocation and budgeting, and strategic planning processes and policies
- University Estate and Staff strategies (e.g. academic ownership of the estates strategy)
- Oversight of the dignity, diversity and staffing strategies and policies
- The sustainable development of the University in its widest sense
- Leadership of projects of strategic importance to the University across the breadth of its activities e.g. student recruitment, league table performance etc.

- Development and oversight of a strategic approach to the University’s engagement with Europe including initiatives such as Horizon 2020 and Erasmus for All
- Development and oversight of a University wide approach to overseas student mobility
