Junior Development Centres
Cardiff University Sport is pleased to announce that after a very successful first year it will be continuing its exciting partnership with Cardiff and Vale County Schools football as it enters its second year. Our first year proved to be a very good one with some outstanding team and individual performances. This resulted in a number of players from each squad having the opportunity to train and represent the Cardiff and vale schoolboy’s sides.
Once again Cardiff University will provide footballers the opportunity to develop there skills through training sessions and matches throughout the year. Those who are selected for the squad will train at the fantastic facilities at the Cardiff University Sports Training Village – Talybont.
Cardiff University Sport will be expanding the development centre in 2012/13 by continuing with the U12/U13/U14/U15s age groups but also adding U9/U10/U11s and girls U14 and U16s to the programme.
Squad members will receive quality coaching by FA/FAW qualified coaches who will all be fully vetted (CRB Checked). The coaches will focus on player development concentrating on areas such as technical skills, tactical elements of play and the importance of building team cohesion.
The partnership between the University and Cardiff and Vale county schools will provide an opportunity for players to progress from the development centre into the representative schoolboy squads. Fixtures between the two squads will take place during the season allowing all coaches and managers to asses how players are developing.
Cardiff University football development centre will also be playing fixtures against other representative teams and academies offering squad members the opportunity to showcase there skills. Year 2 will see further development of the fixture list and an increase in games. Already the development centre has secured a fixture against an academy team from a football league club in September and March and we will be confirming more fixtures over the coming months.
