Facilities: Cardiff has an outstanding choice of sports facilities

1 July 2011

Cardiff University Sport has been selected by the Australian Paralympic team as their Pre-Games training camp as they make their preparations for the London 2012 Games. The newly refurbished Cardiff University Sport facilities will be used by the Australian Paralympic team as the Wheelchair Basketball team make their bid for another Gold medal.

"Our objectives for this staging camp are clear. We will create a high performance environment in which Australian athletes can also acclimatise to the time zone and weather conditions they will encounter during the London Games, while adapting to life in a larger team environment," Jason Hellwig Australia Team Chief de Mission said.

"Given its proximity to London, and the willingness of the Government and people of Wales to embrace us, Cardiff has already proven to be an outstanding choice.”

"We’re extremely pleased with how the staging camp is taking shape at this crucial time in our preparations and we’re very confident that it will be delivered in a way that will give our Paralympic Team the best chance for success."

Cardiff University Sport is very much looking forward to welcoming such a prestigious and talented team as Australia, hope they enjoy their time in Cardiff and wish them every success at the London 2012 Games.
