Opening of new Clinical Simulation Suite
14 February 2012

2011 saw the closure of our Caerleon campus, and the relocation of our Clinical Simulation Suite to Cardiff. This was a large and complex project and we were very keen to continue to provide the level of provision that we had in Caerleon in the newly established area. I am very pleased to report that this has been achieved and we are thrilled with our new facility.

The newly created Caerleon Clinical Simulation Suite is located where the old library used to be, on the second floor of Ty Dewi Sant at the Heath. The laboratory has been largely replicated, with the added dimension of a two way viewing window. This will prove particularly valuable in peer observation work. The School has also invested heavily in new simulation technology, a valuable tool in medical education. The new SMOTS system includes cameras and microphones installed in all the simulated wards, and enables the recording of of events for playback and review, as well as allowing two way communication between participants and observers, ideal for observation and training scenarios.

The School is planning the continuation of our simulation work further in terms of teaching methodologies and hope to implement some of this work into the new curriculum.
