Associate Lecturer Scheme
The School of Healthcare Sciences' (formerly the Schools of Nursing and Midwifery / Healthcare Studies) Associate Lecturer Scheme offers healthcare practitioners development opportunities in teaching and learning, research and scholarly activity, within a higher education setting and all whilst remaining in their substantive clinical post.
Launched in 2008, the Associate Lecturer Scheme in response to key policy guidance concerning ‘Clinical Academic Careers’ has been developed in collaboration with local health partners. Each Associate Lecturer is supported by a dedicated mentor who assists with developmental objectives. Practitioners undertake a secondment for two days per week (15 hours) from their substantive clinical role for a period of between one and two years.
Throughout the School there are Associate Lecturer opportunities in both undergraduate and postgraduate education and research. Secondment opportunities are offered on a rolling programme throughout the year, featured on Local Health Board intranet sites and disseminated by senior staff.
Applicants to the Scheme are required to be registered healthcare professionals; possess a degree, preferably at masters level and have relevant post-registration experience.
