Overview:
The aim of this course is to enable students to develop a theoretical understanding of and practical skill in the indications, contraindications for the use of grade V manipulation of the spine Students will also acquire skills in the assessment when using grade V manipulation of the spine.

Tutor Biography:
The tutors are clinical specialists in musculoskeletal spinal service in Cardiff and Vale UHB
Learning Outcomes:
On completion of the course a student will be able to demonstrate understanding of:
1. The use of clinical reasoning skills as part of a problem-solving approach to assess patients
for the use of grade V manipulation in relation to anatomy, biomechanics, physiology,
pathophysiology and psychology
2. The indications and contraindications for the use of grade V manipulation
3. Demonstrate skills in a variety of grade V manipulation techniques of the spine
Additional information:
This course has a high practical element and you must be prepared to work practically and act as a model for other course members. For safety you will need to be screened for your suitability to undergo manipulation. Suitable clothing to allow adequate exposure of the region is required. Participants will be of mixed gender. As this is an advanced skill the participants will be limited to those physiotherapists with at least 2 years musculoskeletal experience and who are currently practising within the field. The suitability of the applicant will be assessed by the course organiser (Philippa Coales) and by the course tutor (Aled Williams) whose decisions will be final.
