The Associates Scheme offered an opportunity to thousands of young people in the 14-19 age group in schools and colleges throughout England. The Scheme offered an opportunity to students to work with undergraduates and get a sense that studying for a degree could open doors to all sorts of exciting job opportunities and that higher education is achievable, affordable and enjoyable.

The website of 'Regenerating Identities: subjectivity in transition in a South Wales workforce', an ESRC funded project (March 2005 to December 2006) involving Peter Fairbrother, Luis Jimenez and Valerie Walkerdine. The project brings critical psychological approaches to identity and subjectivity into dialogue with sociology to investigate the transformation of worker identity as an aspect of community regeneration.
SIRC conducts professional scientific research solely focused on seafarers, looking into the social, political, and economic dimensions of seafarers lives. SIRC was established in 1995 as part of the Cardiff University School of Social Sciences with a view to conducting research on seafarers, and has since built up unparalleled experience of research in this field.
