There was excitement in the air on Tuesday 16th July as more than 200 undergraduates and approximately 100 postgraduates graduated from the Cardiff School of Social Sciences (SOCSI).
20 undergraduates across the range of degrees awarded were presented with a First Class Honours Degree. Over half the undergraduate degrees were Bachelor of Economic and Social Sciences, with 45 awards of a Bachelor of Arts and 55 Bachelor of Science.
Moving onto the Higher Degrees presented, 47 students received their Postgraduate Certificate in Education. 35 awards of Master of Arts in Social Work were given out, along with approximately 30 Master of Science in Criminology & Criminal Justice, Education, Advanced Social Work, Equality and Diversity, Science, Media and Communication and Social Science Research Methods. 18 Doctor of Philosophy were also presented along with two Doctor of Education, two Doctor of Health Studies and three Doctor of Social Work.
In addition one member of staff, Professor William Housley, received the degree of Doctor of Economic and Social Studies.
A post-ceremony celebration was held in the grounds of Main Building for all graduates and their families.
Prizes were also awarded to a selection of students who had excelled in their area of study:
- SAGE prize for Excellence in Independent Study - Nicola Etter
- SAGE prize for Excellence in Quantitative Research - Kelly Knott
- Dr TG James prize for the best student in the School qualifying for a degree - Alice Dal Gobbo
- Anne Vaughan memorial prize for full-time PGCE student - Sophie Thomas
- Anne Vaughan memorial prize for part-time PGCE student - Gabrielle Smallbone
