Abstract
This presentation introduces the Men as Fathers project; a social psychological and qualitative longitudinal investigation into transition and change in the lives of men as first-time fathers. We will discuss the work of the project to-date and present some of our dissemination materials before moving on to consider our most recent work on intensive parenting culture. In recent years, academics have shown interest in the phenomenon of intensive or hyper-parenting, which has predominantly focussed on mothers as primary caregivers. In this paper we seek to move beyond approaches which invoke a maternal lens in order to consider ways in which parenting may be experienced as intensive by fathers.
