Philosophy Cafe

Starts: 19 July 2011

July 19th, 8pm, The Gate, Keppoch Street, Cardiff, CF24 3JW

Ageing, immortality and contemporary anti-ageing biomedicine

Joanna Latimer, David Kipling and Sophie Davies

Synopsis:

"Rage, rage against the dying of the light" (Dylan Thomas)

We're all living longer, and the consequences of this demographic shift are one of the great challenges for the 21st century.

In this café we will explore historical and modern approaches to anti-ageing medicines and technology, from Robbie Williams to cryogenics, resveratrol to anti-Alzheimer's drugs.   Then, through audience participation, we will stimulate a debate on the ethical, social and moral dilemmas that such anti-ageing technoscience raise.

Although the prospect of extending healthy lifespan is real, we will ask: should we?
