In this presentation, Nicole will address the linkages between sustainability policies and research policies at EU level, questioning what research can do for sustainability. A cross-reading of both policies unveils the strong sustainability potential of FP7. Nicole will explain how the Commission's services are organised to keep pledges and engage Member States in this endeavour. In conclusion, and to launch debate, Nicole will point to the need to avoid panaceas, and to be inspired by the "Think we must!" of Virginia Woolf.
