| A science discovery centre
formed the field site for our research. This hands-on science
exploratory provides a rich environment that is a relatively
self-contained and provided a feasible bounded site for the
research. The expertise in the field of education within the
research team resulted in the sites selection. In particular
the team were interested in the following issues:
Public engagement with science and technology;
Childrens' and young peoples' understanding of science;
The representation of the scientific and technological in
an interactive environment;
The use of web-based interactive science exhibits; and
Visitors’ consumption of space, exhibits and artefacts.
The ethnography was thus a contribution in its own right to
the contemporary study of public pedagogy, science in society,
and consumption. To see an overview of our findings
