The Cardiff School of Social Sciences is a thriving centre of teaching and research with around 350 undergraduate students joining the School each year. We welcome applicants who share our appetite for advancing our understanding of a diverse and fast-changing social world

Our courses are taught by researchers at the forefront of their subject; their expertise and insight inform governments and policy-makers regionally, nationally, and overseas. What you study with us will relate directly to current events happening in the world today, and will enable you to understand and contribute to contemporary debates in an informed way. All of the degree schemes are modular and designed to deliver the central tenets of their respective disciplines whilst leaving you free to exercise choice and select modules reflecting your personal interests and ambitions.

With an international reputation for progressive ideas and a strong commitment to theoretically-informed research with a clear policy focus, the School is a hotbed of cutting-edge research. The latest independent assessment of research quality rated almost all of our research of international standard, and most of it as “world-leading” or “internationally excellent”.

Student Experience

This rating combined with our size – almost 1,000 students and 160 staff – places us in the top five of social science centres in the UK. Indeed, overall satisfaction among our students in the recent National Student Survey was recorded at 92%.

Based in the architecturally spectacular Glamorgan Building – a popular filming location for TV series’ such as Doctor Who – the School is proud of its busy and friendly atmosphere, providing an excellent environment for students to thrive.
