Dr Steven Stanley  

Career Profile

Steven Stanley is a Lecturer in the School of Social Sciences at Cardiff University, where he teaches mindfulness, social psychology and research methods. He completed his Ph.D. titled ‘Doctoral Dilemmas: Towards a Discursive Psychology of Postgraduate Education’ in the Department of Social Sciences at Loughborough University in 2005. Since then he has been developing an embodied approach to social psychology rooted in Buddhist mindfulness practice. At  Cardiff, he teaches the psychology of mindfulness, critical social psychology, research methods, and psychology as applied to social work.

Teaching Profile

Steven's teaching is primarily on the BPS route pathways through BA Education and BSc Social Science undergraduate degree schemes. He also contributes to postgraduate modules, teaching the psychology of mindfulness. 


Steven supervises Ph.D. students doing research on or using mindfulness practice and will happily receive informal inquiries about potential doctoral study in the first instance - He is currently co-supervising Pip (Victoria) Hardy for a part-time self-funded Ph.D. titled 'Mindfulness-Informed Digital Storytelling in Health and Social Care' which commenced in January 2010.
