Research Interests
The central theme in my research is the relationship between education and social inequalities. I have studied a range of topics: assessment and student experience in higher education; professionalism, learning cultures and policy in further education; curriculum innovation, creative teaching, work-related learning and factors in GCSE attainment in secondary education; middle class identity and (secondary) school choice. I use and write about the social theory of Bourdieu, but also draw on many other theoretical sources. Whilst most of my research work has been qualitative, I use quantitative and mixed methods as well, depending on the nature of the research questions.
David takes some time to talk about his research interests below.
