Research Interests

Contemporary policy debates are often, in part, controversies about knowledge. They raise questions about what sort of expertise is needed, who possesses and what how it should be acted upon.

My research addresses these questions by examining the ways in which knowledge — scientific and lay — is developed, used, combined and contested. I am thus interested in both the dynamics of specific controversies and the nature of expertise in general.
