Meet our students
Students from a wide range of backgrounds are doing the MA/Dip course. Here are just two of them...
My name is Carl Morris, and I am originally from Yorkshire. I graduated in Philosophy from Cardiff last year with a 1st class degree, and I am now doing the MA 'Islam in Contemporary Britain' course full-time. Over the summer vacation, I spent some time working in Bradford, and I am keen to develop my knowledge and understanding of Muslims in Britain. I am thinking of perhaps going on to to a PhD here in Cardiff, once I have successfully completed the MA. There are excellent resources here in Cardiff, and I am really enjoying being part of an active student community and research centre.
My name is Nashima Begum. I am from the Bangladeshi community in Swansea, but now living in Cardiff, and I work for the Strategic Equality and Diversity Unit in the Welsh Assembly Government. My employers are paying my course fees, because they regard the course as part of my professional development and training. I originally began the course last year, doing the Diploma, but then decided to upgrade to the MA this year. The course is helping me to understand the history and settlement of Muslims in Britain, and the key issues and challenges facing Muslims in Britain today. I have learnt so much on the course, not only from the teachers, but also from other students, who all come from very different backgrounds.
