Research in Greek History

Several members of staff work on Greek history from the Archaic period through to the Hellenistic, with a wide range of interests, including social institutions, political structures, moral values, religion, economy, law and material culture. Current research areas include:

  • Greek (especially Attic) epigraphy
  • Greek warfare
  • Greek medicine and science
  • Athenian citizenship and religion
  • fourth-century Athens
  • Greek housing from the Early Iron Age to the Hellenistic period
  • the history of Sicily, especially Syracuse
  • Classical and Hellenistic mosaics
