Our popular degree programmes are informed by the latest historical research and cover the early Medieval period to the late twentieth century and allow you to study the histories of Britain, Europe and Asia. Our courses seek to encourage you to approach familiar subjects in new ways and introduce you to new topics, allowing you to investigate different approaches - theoretical and practical - in understanding historical studies.
The Department offers full-time and part-time single honours programmes in History and a range of full-time joint honours programmes, which allow you to combine History with other disciplines in the Humanities and the Social Sciences.

The Department offers a range of MA degrees that reflects its research strengths and cover a wide range of historical periods from the early Medieval period to the present, with a focus on the histories of Britain, Wales, Europe and Asia.
Our MA schemes are tailored to meet the specialist needs of students and a number of routes are available through these schemes, which allow you to specialise further. All schemes combine discipline-related modules with skills training.

The Department has dedicated facilities for postgraduate study and has an active programme of research seminars, to which postgraduate students are encouraged to attend and give papers. It has an active research culture and is closely involved with a number of interdisciplinary research groups, including the Centre for the Study of Medieval Society and Culture, Cardiff Centre for the Crusades, and the Cardiff Centre for Modern German History, and has developed links with other universities in Wales, the UK and Europe.
