Meetings with your Personal Tutor
Students will see their Personal Tutors on the mornings of
- Year Two: 09.30-12.30, Friday 28 September
- Year Three: 09.30-12.30, Thursday 27 September
A List of Personal Tutors is available on the Year 2 and Year 3 notice boards (and on Blackboard) for you to consult. All joint honours students (including BSc Politics and Modern History) have a tutor in History that you can consult if you wish to discuss any aspect of your History studies. Note: For those students taking BA Ancient and Medieval History this is an integrated degree programme and your Personal Tutor is in Ancient History.
You should check outside your Tutor’s office to see when they have scheduled their meetings. You are advised to check before the day as some meetings may well be scheduled early on.
At these meetings you will be able to discuss issues concerning enrolment and teaching in the year ahead. You will also receive copies of your year Handbooks which contains important information for you to consider. You will also receive advice on PDP and be able to submit completed PDP forms from the previous academic year.
Guidance on Online Enrolment
You should enrol online to register with the University and confirm your programme of study (i.e. your degree scheme and modules on that scheme).
Please check that by the end of enrolment week (28 September) you have:
- Completed online enrolment.
- Confirmed your programme of study when doing this.
- Confirmed your modules, that you have the requisite 120 credits, and are on the appropriate modules for your degree scheme (including our core modules for Single Honours Students – these are HS1701 Approaches to History and HS1711 Exploring Historical Debate for Year 2; and HS1801 Dissertation for Year 3).
- Collected the relevant Handbooks, signed-up for HS1701 seminars, etc from Room 4.45 on the same day as you see your Personal Tutor.
- Attend the relevant Introductory lecture:
- Year Two, Friday 28 September at 16:00
- Year Three, Thursday 27 September at 16:00

The enrolment itself is done via SIMS online at http://sims.cardiff.ac.uk/

Guidance on Changing Modules
You will recall the advice given at pre-enrolment that we allocate to courses to ensure an equitable distribution of students to modules. This allows us to teach seminar groups in a sustainable and effective way, and also avoids excessive pressures on library resources. You will have been given at least one of your first choices in this process.
There is NO SCOPE for changing modules at this time except: a) in circumstances of a timetable clash, b) where there are serious problems with module selection, or c) if you wish to transfer to one of the following modules which still have some capacity:

Afternoon Session
Where there are serious problems with module selection / approval which have not already been resolved, you should see Dr Lloyd Bowen in his office (Rm 4.31) from 14.00-16:00 on Thursday 27 September and Friday 28 September.
Guidance on HS1801 Dissertation Allocation
Allocation for dissertations will be undertaken in the first two weeks of the semester. This process is based upon preferences stated in the module selection sheets completed at pre-enrolment, and subject to the reasonable distribution of dissertation students among staff. A notice will be posted on the Year Three notice board by Week Two listing students and their supervisors.
