Student Support

We realise that our students are our most important resource. Furthermore, people learn most effectively when they feel valued, respected and supported. Therefore, we have a well developed programme of support services to offer you the help and advice you need to make the most of your time at University.

Support Services within the University

As a student of Cardiff University, you have access to a wide range of support services. The central University has a , who exist to provide you with the help, advice and practical assistance you need to succeed. Some of the services offered include:

  • The Student Support Centre offers advice and support on personal, academic and financial matters.
  • The Disability & Dyslexia Service offers help, advice and practical assistance on disability and dyslexia
  • The University Counselling Service offers a confidential counselling service
  • For students with children, the University runs a creche
  • The Careers Service offer a wide range of careers-related advice and support
  • The Student Health Service runs a supplementary appointment or drop-in service

Support Services within the School

Student support is also an important feature of the School of Religious & Theological Studies. As a student, you will be a member of a compact and friendly School. You also have access to more specialist help and advice.

Staff-Student Relations

The School of Religious and Theological Studies benefits from good staff student relations. There is a consultative committee which consists of students elected to represent each year with appropriate members of staff. They meet regularly to discuss matters of importance and concern to students and are influential in setting up improvements to the overall teaching programme.

The Student Support Officer

The Student Support Officer, Richard Cawley, offers confidential help and advice on a wide range of academic and personal issues. Richard has a special remit for the care of all first year students and provides advice through all three years, should any difficulties arise. Richard is the School's Disability Contact and is also the Personal Tutor for all Year One students.

Personal Tutors

You will be assigned a Personal Tutor who is able to advise on academic, non-academic and personal matters in a confidential and informal manner. Students may have problems from time to time and the personal tutor system is designed to overcome these as effectively and quickly as possible. Our current Personal Tutors are:
