Level One Modules
Understanding Level One
Generally speaking, Level One courses will offer you an introduction to a particular topic. Within the Department, Level One modules provide introductory explorations of both Religious Studies and Theology. As a student on a Level One module, you can expect to cover the main features, key developments and significant periods of a given religious tradition. You can also expect to use a range of methodological approaches to the study of religions, such as history, anthropology, textual study and so on. Our Level One modules generally assume no prior knowledge and are grouped in broad study blocks.
Level One modules thus form the foundations for the rest of your degree programme. As such, in order to proceed automatically to Year 2, you must successfully complete 120 credits worth of study at Level One.
