German for Historians - 20 credits (HST602)

This module is intended to prepare students to read primary and secondary sources in German, and is aimed specifically at those who are thinking seriously about doing further postgraduate work in modern German or Austrian history. The course focuses on practical translation of selected texts - chosen to suit the ability of individual students - on consideration of issues arising from translation, and on practical language work. There will be a certain amount of teaching in spoken German, but the emphasis is firmly on developing your ability to read historical sources in German. Assessment is by coursework and a final examination.

You must have either A-Level German or a German GCSE at Grade C if you intend to take this module.
