Britain and Ireland in the Neolithic - 20 credits (HST420)

This option covers the period from c. 4000-2500/2000 BC in Britain and Ireland. Its main themes are transitions, beginnings, dispersed settlement, subsistence, and monuments and their contexts. The Neolithic of Britain and Ireland is normally taught in the spring semester through small group discussion and tutorials. Assessment is by one extended essay (4000 words). Major topics studied: transitions; forms of settlement; kinds of production; landscape; the emergence and development of monuments; regional studies (Wessex, Orkney, Ireland).
