Epigraphy

  • Centre for the Study of Ancient Documents - a growing collection of resources for epigraphy, including images of inscriptions and writing-tablets.
  • Packard Humanities Institute database of Greek inscriptions - very extensive collection, browseable by region and by publication, including much of Inscriptiones Graecae and other major epigraphic collections.
  • Attic Inscriptions Online - collection of inscriptions from Athens and Attica, in English translation, searchable and cross-referenced to the standard epigraphic publications.
  • Epigraphic Database at Heidelberg - huge database of inscriptions from the Roman Empire, mainly in Latin, along with a searchable bibliography and photographs.
  • Epigraphic Database at Frankfurt - another database of Latin inscriptions, searchable by word, province and provenance (but the site is entirely in German).
  • Inscripta - an e-learning resource aimed at teaching students to transcribe, transliterate and translate Romano-British inscriptions, using examples from the Great North Museum, Newcastle upon Tyne.
