About Ancient History
Ancient History at Cardiff encompasses the Greek and Roman worlds from Archaic Greece through to Late Antiquity. Our teaching and research interests include both political and social history; particular strengths include warfare, gender and sexuality, religion, ancient medicine, and the interpretation of epigraphic and archaeological evidence. In both teaching and research our expertise is complemented and extended by collaboration with our colleagues in classical archaeology, medieval history and religious studies.
We offer a range of undergraduate degree programmes in Ancient History, including two Integrated Single Honours degrees that combine Ancient History with Archaeology or Medieval History.
The research interests of staff in Ancient History span the whole of antiquity, from Early Iron Age Greece to the Byzantine Empire, but many shared themes run through our work, including warfare, religion, material culture, and issues of identity, especially ethnicity, gender and sexuality.
