The Control Room is located in the Security Centre on Park Place and is maintained in accordance with Home Office Guidelines. The Control Room operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. It is here that CCTV cameras are monitored, with all images being stored on hard disk recorders. Images taken from these recordings can be used as evidence of crimes committed against University staff, students and property. Control Room staff maintain a high level of service throughout the day and night, operating the University’s internal emergency telephones outside of office hours as well as monitoring Fire and Intruder alarms and a city wide two-way radio systems.
Closed Circuit Cameras
A comprehensive CCTV Camera system operates right across the University campus, including the large residential sites. The cameras, in conjunction with two-way radios, are used to great effect; in both directing security staff to incidents and in observing or apprehending intruders and suspected criminals. Close co-operation with South Wales Police Cardiff Control Centre extends the cover of the city centre CCTV system. This initiative speeds up the liaison between the University Security Staff and South Wales Police, helping to cement our excellent relationship with the local Constabulary.
