Manual Handling Team

The Manual Handling team are supervised by the Head Porter, Terry Burnett. They are responsible for routine moves of: small furniture, desks, chairs, computers, books, equipment, etc. They will also undertake tasks of delivering internal parcels and collecting confidential waste, (each Wednesday) provided that the work is within the campus boundaries. Work outside the campus boundaries and out of normal working hours can only be completed by prior arrangement with the Head Porter. Please note the Manual Handling team do not work after 4:30pm.When booking, please provide reasonable notice of the task, which will allow the Coordinator time to plan the work for the Manual Handling team. Also note that periods just before and just after examinations are extremely busy for the team and your task may be postponed if it clashes with these.

Packing Crate Hire

This service has been established to provide for small office moves which are normally completed by the Manual Handling team. This facility should not be used for long term storage or to replace the normal hire of crates from the authorised University removals contractor.

A daily hire charge of 50 pence per crate, per day, is charged to cover normal running costs (replacement of broken crates etc.) However, if a crate is lost or the correct amount of crates is not returned, the hirer will be charged the full replacement price of £25.00 + VAT, per lost crate. Crates can be hired (subject to availability) via the contact details above. The daily charges run from the day the empty crates are delivered, to the day that the crates are returned. It is necessary for the crates to be signed for by the department, and signed back to the Manual Handling team on return. All signatures will be timed and dated. Requests for collection of used, empty, crates must be received before midday.
