Access Control

Many of the University’s buildings and car parks have doors/barriers which are controlled by proximity readers. The current Cardiff University ID card has a chip embedded in the card, so that the card can be used with the readers for authorised users. The first Cardiff University card is free, but there is a £10 fee for replacement of lost ID cards. This replacement charge applies to all card users.
Cardiff University ID cards are produced at the Security Centre daily, between 9.00am and 4.30pm, excluding weekends, bank holidays and University holidays. The issuing workstations are occasionally taken out of action for essential maintenance for short periods of time and if you are making a special trip to obtain a card you may like to call our reception on: (029) 2087 4445 before setting out. The process takes a few minutes and a digital photograph is printed on the card. Further details on the documentation that should be brought with you, in order to be issued with an ID card are available from Security & Portering Services Reception: (029) 208 74445.
Details of the procedure for new students can be found here: http://www.cardiff.ac.uk/regis/enrolment/index.html
Access control queries should be directed to Mark Howell either by telephone: (029) 2087 4319, email: howellpm@cf.ac.uk or to our generic email address: securityservices@cardiff.ac.uk
