Japanese (Honours subject only-not available as additional subject)
Only available to BA Japanese Joint Honours students
Japanese language is not available to students as an additional subject. (Exceptions might possibly be made in particular cases).
The degree programmes in which Japanese is involved are the BA Joint Honours Japanese and French / German / Italian / Spanish. The minimum A level requirements up to the present have been 320 points, with an A in French for the degree French & Japanese; 320 points with a B in the European language or Japanese in the case of German & Japanese, Italian & Japanese, and Spanish & Japanese.
All five modules (total 60 credits) are compulsory. The remaining 60 credits are taken in the School of European Languages, Translation and Politics and comprise 20 credits in the relevant language, 20 non-language credits relating to that language and 20 additional non-language credits. Details can be found at the end of this Japanese section of the Guide.
Entrance for ACCESS and other non-A level entrants is exceptional and such students will be treated on merit.

EUROPEAN STUDIES MODULES
All BA students combining Japanese with a European language take 60 credits in Japanese (see above) and 60 credits in European Studies. These consist of 20 credits in the relevant language and 20 non-language credits in the relevant language subject PLUS a further 20 non-language credits in European Studies to be selected from the list below:
