Acceptable Documentation as Proof of Identity

In order to collect your Cardiff University Student Card you will be required to provide proof of your identity.

It is essential that new students should bring the following to collect a University Student Card:

For International students 

You must bring the following:

  • Original Passport with Entry Clearance Visa
  • Biometric Card (where applicable)

If you do not have any of the above you will not be issued with a Student Card and will need to contact the Student Support Centre immediately for advice.

 

For EEA National students

You must bring the following:

  • Original Passport or
  • National Identity Card

If you can not provide one of the above you will not be issued with a Student Card.

For UK National students

You must bring the following:

  • Original Passport or
  • Naturalisation Certificate or
  • Right of Abode Certificate or
  • Birth Certificate

Please note that if you are a UK National student and do not have one of the above forms of ID, you will only be granted a temporary Student Card, and you will be given six weeks from the start of your course to provide one of the above or your registration with the University may be cancelled.  

A temporary card can be obtained by providing TWO of the following (ONE of which must contain your address, confirmed during enrolment, as held on the University Student Record).  

  • UK Photographic Driving Licence
  • Tenancy Agreement/Mortgage documentation
  • Current Cheque Guarantee Card
  • Current Credit Card or Charge Card
  • Bank or Building Society Book
  • Cheque Book
  • Full Drivers Licence (without photo)
  • Utility Bill
  • Marriage Certificate
  • Home Office Documents
  • Inland Revenue Documents
  • Work Permit
  • National Insurance Card
  • Correspondence from the Student Loans Company or Local Authority
