The Regeneration Institute

The Regeneration Institute (RI) is an interdisciplinary research centre, housed between the School of City and Regional Planning and Cardiff School of Social Sciences. The Institute acts as a vehicle for research in area-based regeneration, embracing academic and policy-related research at local, regional and international levels.

The RI aims to be a focus for good policy and practice in the field of regeneration and a resource for local communities. The wide range of expertise at the University will become more easily accessible to organisations that are engaged in the social, economic, environmental and cultural dimensions of regeneration. The Regeneration Institute seeks to develop partnerships in which universities, development agencies, local authorities, professional bodies, local communities and the National Assembly collaborate to improve social and economic well-being in Wales.

The Regeneration Institute aims to be a vehicle for high quality research in regeneration studies, facilitating informed decision-making and evidence-based policy-making as well as being a gateway of expertise that enables our communities to realistically determine a more vibrant and cohesive future for themselves. Wales has been actively engaged in practising 'regeneration' for over 50 years, so it is only fitting that we have a centre devoted to the theory, policy and practice of regeneration studies.
