Cardiff University adopts a research ethos that pervades every aspect of its activity building upon the results of the 1996 and 2001 Research Assessment Exercises which have demonstrated major improvements in research profile.

The University pursues research excellence in basic, applied and practice-based research that is sustainable.  We seek to achieve and maintain excellence across all existing areas of research activity while establishing new, interdisciplinary strengths.

In order to realise such ambitions, the Research and Commercial Division exists to support and facilitate the process of University-wide research, and the commercialisation of research outputs. 

We seek to ensure that the process is consistently smooth and successful by providing a number of services, from assistance with research grant applications and managing research grants and contracts, to technology licensing, business development and other commercial opportunities.
