The Cardiff Catalysis Institute was established in 2008 under the directorship of Professor Graham Hutchings FRS and, with the recruitment of key new academic and technical staff, is recognised as the leading catalysis research institute in the UK. The CCI is emerging as an internationally leading team and can be considered to be in the top 5 of such groupings worldwide.

The President’s Research Scholarship students will participate in research activities which will span all areas of catalysis including heterogeneous, homogeneous and bio catalysis and will interface with other research activities within chemistry through chemic synthesis to computational methodologies. There will be synergies with other subject areas within the University and the Institute is seeking to establish new collaborations with the Schools of Biosciences, Engineering, Pharmacy and Physics.

Doctoral students will be trained in the newly refurbished laboratory facilities of the CCI which include extensive and world leading research equipment and facilities.

The studentships will aim to prepare the doctoral students in a broad area of careers including academic and industry. The academic staff of the CCI has an impressive record of training students that have risen to high ranks within both academic and industry worldwide. The postgraduates are eagerly sought after for employment following their studentships.
