THE
INTERNATIONAL HIGH PRESSURE BIOLOGY GROUP |
The International High Pressure Biology Group was formed in June 1988 during the meeting entitled “High Pressure Nervous Syndrome 20 Years Later” held in Gosier, Guadeloupe (West French Indies). The main goal of this group is to bring together scientists from the various subdivisions of high pressure biology in order to share information, procedures and perspectives in a very extensive field including basic disciplines such as marine ecology and molecular biology, as well as more applied topics like hyperbaric medicine and food science. This interdisciplinary approach derived from an earlier meeting in 1986 in Toronto, Canada, at which an effort was made to facilitate communication between those studying the effects of high pressure on molecules and those studying its effects on whole organisms and organ systems. Following the inaugural meeting the following meetings have taken place: |
| IInd HPG meeting |

| IIIrd HPG meeting |

| IVth HPG meeting |

| Vth HPG meeting |

The founding co-presidents of the Group were Dr. J.C. Rostain from Marseilles (France) and Dr. A. M. Zimmerman from Toronto (Canada). Dr. R.E. Marquis from Rochester (New- York, U.S.A.) and Dr. A.G. MacDonald, Aberdeen (U.K.) were elected in 1992. Dr. P.B. Bennett from Duke University (Durham, U.S.A.) was elected in 1995 and Dr. J.J. Risso from Toulon (France) was elected as co-president in 1999. The current co-presidents Dr. S. Daniels from Cardiff University (U.K.) and Dr. Y. Grossman from Ben Gurion University of the Negev (Israel) were elected in 2005. The International High Pressure Biology Group counts more than 250 members from 20 different countries all over the world. |
