- To undertake health-related quality of life assessment and economic evaluation of medicines
- To utilise a variety of approaches in the establishment of health related quality of life indicators to promote the practice of evidence based medicine
- To examine the economic viability of the routine collection of quality of life data and its usefulness in clinical decision making and predicting outcomes
- To examine ethical issues related to the use of quality of life information in healthcare resource allocation Development of quality of life instruments
- To carry out innovative research in the development and application of methodology for measuring the impact that pharmaceutical and non-pharmaceutical interventions have on health related quality of life
- To develop novel techniques for electronically capturing the impact of interventions on patients' health related quality of life and functional behaviour
Advice
- To provide advice on the suitability of quality of life and economic measures to be incorporated into clinical studies
- To disseminate the research findings of the Centre to relevant government and private enterprises through regular bulletins, scientific journals, books and the media
Education and training
- To provide education and training in socioeconomics through the organisation of structured course
- To provide an international perspective on the safe, effective and economic use of medicines
Creation of a global resource base
- To create a world-wide network and resource base to facilitate access to quality of life and economic research
