The Pharmacy Lecture Theatre was renamed the Vernon Lloyd Lecture Theatre and Professor Stephen Denyer unveiled his photograph to hang in the main stairwell at a double celebration held on September 28th.
Professor Gary Baxter, the new Head of the Welsh School of Pharmacy, welcomed members of the Lloyd family, former and current members of staff and other invited guests to the School. He gave a brief outline of the career of Vernon Lloyd, who was Head of School for 37 years from 1930 and saw huge developments during the transition of the parent body from a technical college to university.

In 1959 Vernon Lloyd took on the additional role of Vice-Principal of the then Welsh CAT and hence was personally involved in the creation of the 'New Building', now the Redwood Building, including the Pharmacy Lecture Theatre. It was thus fitting that 80 years after he started in the school, 'his' lecture theatre be re-named in his memory.
Professor Paul Nichols, son-in-law of Vernon Lloyd and former Deputy Head of the School, responded on behalf of the family, who deeply appreciated the honour paid to their father.

Professor Stephen Denyer was the sixth Head of School from 2003 until his appointment as Deputy Pro-Vice Chancellor for Education and Students from August 1st of this year. He was invited by Professor Baxter to unveil the portrait photograph of himself, which would subsequently be hung in the main stairwell, alongside his predecessors. Professor Denyer was then presented with a crystal whiskey decanter as a token of appreciation from the current staff.
To conclude the celebrations, refreshments were served in the refrectory area.
