New approaches to chemical modification of proteins and antibodies

Professor Caddick joined UCL in 2003 as Vernon Professor of Organic Chemistry and Chemical Biology and was appointed as Vice-Provost (Enterprise) in 2010. He is responsible for leading UCL's enterprise agenda including: knowledge transfer and exchange, business relationships and partnerships, entrepreneurship, innovation and social enterprise.

He was the founding director of the UCL Centre for Chemical Biology, and, from 2008-2010 served as Head of the Department of Chemistry. Professor Caddick has a major research group in Organic Synthesis and Chemical Biology with a particular focus on the development of novel and sustainable synthetic methods for applications in biological and biomedical research. He has served on a number of EPSRC, BBSRC and MRC funding panels and committees. He has played key role in developing the unique contribution UCL will make to the Francis Crick Institute (formerly UKCMRI), which will bring the university together with Cancer Research UK, the Medical Research Council and the Wellcome Trust in a new institute in central London to undertake cutting-edge research and training of medical scientists to advance our understanding of health and disease. He was founder of the open access publishing website SyntheticPages and a founder of biotech spin-out Thiologics.

Professor Caddick served on the Review Panel of the Wilson Review of Business-University Collaboration, released in early 2012. He is a member of the Government’s Tech City Advisory panel and the London Enterprise Panel’s Digital Creative, Science & Technology Working group
