Dr Ali Tavassoli
Southampton University
"Targeting tumour metabolism with cyclic peptide inhibitors of protein-protein interactions"
Ali is a Reader in chemical biology, jointly appointed at the School of Chemistry and the Cancer Sciences division of the Faculty of Medicine. He is the recipient of a Career Establishment Award from Cancer Research UK, and the European Association for Chemical and Molecular Sciences' medal for European Young Chemist.
His research group has a multidisciplinary background, with expertise in chemistry, biochemistry and cancer biology. The main focus of his research is to understand the protein-protein interaction networks that link hypoxia-response to the metabolic changes associated with tumorigenesis.
Ali is currently the Chair of the RSC's "BioOrganic Group" and a member of the RSC's "Chemistry and Biology Interface Division" council.
