“Integration, integration, integration: The recipe for success in UK pharmacy education?”
After training in both hospital and community David graduated from the University of Bradford in 1991 and became a full time community pharmacist, where he still regularly practices today. In 1992 he started his PhD to determine the value of providing clinical pharmacy services to care homes and in 1996 started as a lecturer at the School of Pharmacy in Bradford. In 2003 David moved to the University of East Anglia to help set up the first new school of pharmacy in the UK for over 30 years. UEA came top for student satisfaction for its first five years in the national student survey. Its graduates continue to perform well in the pre-registration examination and been successful in obtaining high quality pre-registration placements.
David became a Professor of Pharmacy Practice in 2010 in recognition of his contribution to the teaching and administration within the school. David was head of teaching from 2008 to 2012, overseeing the latest GPhC accreditation process for which the school received 6 years further accreditation with no conditions or recommendations.
David’s research interests include pharmacy education, preparing influential national reports for the RPSGB and DH, and medicines administration in patients with dysphagia. He is currently PI on over £1M in research grants and is the East of England chair for the NIHR Research for Patient Benefit research funding scheme.
