“The delivery of endocytosed cargo to lysosomes”
Paul Luzio is Professor of Molecular Membrane Biology, Deputy Head of the Clinical School and Master of St Edmund’s College at the University of Cambridge. His research group is located in the Cambridge Institute for Medical Research (CIMR) of which he was Director from 2002 to 2012. Paul was a student at Cambridge where he obtained his PhD in the Department of Biochemistry. Most of his career was spent in the Department of Clinical Biochemistry at Cambridge apart from a period as a lecturer at the Welsh National School of Medicine in the 1970’s and sabbatical visits to EMBL, Heidelberg during the 1980’s. Paul's work has largely been concerned with understanding membrane traffic pathways in mammalian cells and abnormalities of trafficking that underlie some disease processes. He has especially focussed on the endocytic pathway in order to understand the sorting and delivery of endocytosed macromolecules to lysosomes and lysosome biogenesis.
