“Neuroprotective potential of dietary flavonoids in Alzheimer’s Disease” 

Rob is a Reader in Molecular and Cellular Neuroscience at the University of Bath working in the field of Alzheimer’s Disease. He gained his PhD at the University of Leeds in 1990 and then took up as a postdoctoral research assistant position in the Department of Pharmacology at the University of Bristol before securing an INSERM Research Fellowship at the College de France in Paris. In 1995 he returned to the UK as a Lecturer in Biochemistry at the United Medical and Dental School in London and set up a laboratory to investigate mechanisms of neuronal cell death with the aim of identifying new neuroprotective strategies for neurodegenerative diseases. Following merger with King’s College London his laboratory moved into the newly formed Wolfson Centre for Age-Related Diseases where he worked until leaving for Bath in 2009. The focus of his current research is in assessing the therapeutic potential of plant-derived dietary polyphenolics for use in dementia. Williams RJ, Spencer JP.
