“Understanding protein-ligand recognition using molecular simulation”
Dr Richard Bryce is Reader in Biomedicinal Chemistry in the School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of Manchester, having been appointed Lecturer in 2000 and Senior Lecturer in 2005. He was awarded a Robert Lincoln McNeil scholarship at the University of Pennsylvania (1992-93) and a Ramsay Memorial Fellowship at Manchester (1999-2001). He has also pursued research at Pennsylvania State University (1993), The Scripps Research Institute, San Diego (1994) and GlaxoWellcome, UK (1997). He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry (2005-) and elected Chair of the Molecular Graphics and Modelling Society (2011-). He has been an elected Ordinary Member of the Academic Pharmacy Group of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain, guest editor for the Journal of Molecular Graphics and Modelling and is currently a member of the journal’s editorial board. His research is aimed at the development and application of computational methodologies for molecular simulation and design, with a particular emphasis on improved models for carbohydrate-based systems. His work, characterised by collaboration with experimental groups, has led to mechanistic and design insights from in silico approaches.
