Drug and nanoparticle transport at mucosal barriers

The School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences is offering a  3 yr PhD studying drug and nanoparticle  transport at mucosal barriers to start Oct 2012.

The project will involve use of  isolated organ and cell culture models to study drug and nanoparticle interactions with mucosal absorption surfaces. The student will be exposed to the following techniques and knowledge base: use of in-vitro (cell culture) and ex-vivo models to investigate biopharmaceutics;  bioanalytical techniques and quantitation of absorptive processes; drug transport;  nanoparticle fabrication and labelling; microscopy.  The project will involve collaborative visits in UK and Europe.

Funding through School Scholarship and European FP7 monies.

Supervisors:   Dr Mark Gumbleton and Dr Mat Smith

Potential students interested in a specific project should contact Mrs Wendy Davies (contact details near the bottom of this page) for details on how to apply and the named supervisor for more information.
