Prof Les Baillie

Qualifications
Professor Baillie graduated Bachelor of Sciences from Plymouth University in 1982. He obtained an MPhil (part time) from the University of the West of England in 1991 and his PhD (part time) from the University of Sheffield in 2001.
Research Interests
The focus of my research is to understand the biology of Bacillus anthracis the causative agent of anthrax. My research efforts can be broadly divided into the following areas:
- Evolution/Ecology
- Detection
- Pathogenesis
- Host immune responses
- Vaccines
- Therapeutic antibodies

Honey needed for superbug fight

Professor Baillie's team have identified a number of Welsh honeys with antibacterial activity. Early results have been promising, and Professor Baillie has appealed to beekeepers from across the UK to send in samples of their honey.
