Cardiff University has been notified by the University and College Union (UCU), Unison and Unite that their members will be taking strike action on Thursday 6th February 2014.
The University has taken steps to minimise the impact of the strike action particularly with regard to students. As a consequence, we expect minimum disruption to University business.
Details of those services affected can be found below:
IT services will be running at high risk of interruption and it may take longer than normal to recover to normal service in the event of an interruption.
The IT Service Desk will be open
The IT staff based at the Julian Hodge Study Centre will be available as normal
The IT clinic in the Students Union will be closed, with the service transferred to the Julian Hodge Study CentreDue to limited staffing in the technician and technical solutions teams, progression of reported IT issues will be prioritised. Support for teaching spaces (pool rooms), REF activities, and breaks in normal service will be given highest priority. Resolution of other issues will be on a reasonable endeavours basis.
All libraries will be open as usual with the exception of:
Senghennydd Library (Maths/Education Building) will close at 8pm
SCOLAR (Special Collections and Archives), based in the Arts and Social Studies Library will be closed between 12 and 2pm
All Cardiff University buildings will be open as usual on this date.
The Security Control Room will be prioritising calls during the 24 hour period.
The opening and locking of buildings will continue as normal. Key provision to building users will go ahead on the usual ‘signed for’ basis. However if the premises concerned normally have a receptionist in place this will need to be checked by the building user as still being in place before the key is issued. ID will be required for all staff collecting keys to buildings and if it is anticipated that a different member of staff to the norm will be collecting keys on 6th February that where possible, Security & Portering Services are made aware of this in advance.
Portering services will be restricted to 9 am – 5 pm coverage. All posts normally covered by Porters will be provided during these hours.
Limited Portering / Security cover services will be available in the Maths & Education Building and the John Percival (Humanities) Building between 5.00pm and 8.00pm.
There will be no internal or external mail services available
There will no manual handling service available
