A new website designed to help Welsh patients’ share their own personal cancer stories will be officially unveiled next week (Thursday 25th November)
Storybank has been developed by the Cancer Genetics Service for Wales (CGSW) Research Team based at Cardiff University’s Institute of Medical Genetics and the University of Glamorgan’s Storyworks team.
Funded by cancer charity, Tenovus – the website contains a series of short videos designed to offer practical support to people worried that they may be at risk of cancer including: living with the possibility of inheriting cancer; compiling a family history; getting a cancer diagnosis and talking about cancer with your family. By recording patients’ personal stories, it’s hoped the website will be used by current and future patients and the general public, as key source of information and support. -Ends- Event detailsWho: Dr Rachel Iredale – Senior Research Fellow, Institute of Medical Genetics, Cardiff UniversityWhat: Launch of StoryBank – a website sharing patients’ cancer genetic storiesWhere: University of Glamorgan, ATRiuM campus – 86-88 Adam Street, CardiffWhen: Thursday 25th November, 6-8pmFilming and interviews will be available with: Dr Rachel Iredale – Senior Research Fellow, Institute of Medical Genetics, Cardiff School of Medicine, is available to talk about the project and the Cancer Genetics Service.Karen Lewis, Director, Storyworks, University of Glamorgan, is available to talk about the project and the importance of digital storytelling in developing an understanding of the patient journey.Dr Alexandra Murray, Consultant in Clinical Genetics, All-Wales medical Genetics Service.Patients featured in the videos will also be available to talk and be interviewed about their own stories.Further information or to attend the event, please contact: Chris JonesPublic RelationsCardiff UniversityTel: 029 20 874731E-mail: jonesc83@cardiff.ac.uk
