Welsh cultural and creative industries will be encouraged to build business relations in China through a pioneering new partnership.
Cardiff University’s Cardiff Confucius Institute and the University of Glamorgan’s School of Creative and Cultural Industries have teamed up to create the Wales China Creative Industries Forum.
The global creative economy is interconnected and interdependent – both China and Wales can learn from each other. The Forum aims to help Welsh creative businesses share good business practice, and build collaborative strategies with their Chinese counterparts.
The Forum’s first event is Thursday, November 12 at the University of Glamorgan’s Atrium. It will present a range of ways for creative industries to work in China.
Speakers include Professor Deng Lili, director of the Centre for Animation at Peking University who will speak on China’s animation industry. Mr Yu Chaozhong, Vice President of Beijing Crystal Digital Technology will talk about trends in China’s digital and multimedia sector.
The event also includes an exhibitors’ market place where businesses can showcase their business and advice sessions. There will also be workshops on patenting and copyright in China, Chinese commercial culture, and a comparison between the UK and Chinese creative sectors.
Professor Siyi Fu, Director of the Cardiff Confucius Institute, which was set up to improve cultural and business awareness of China in Wales, said: "As in Wales, China has a flourishing creative industries sector, and there is great scope for interaction between the two. This week’s event will be the first of many for the Forum, offering detailed technical information about how to work with Chinese creative and cultural industries."
The event is supported by Cardiff Council, Creative Business Wales and the Welsh Assembly and Chinese Governments.
