28 April 2010
Cardiff students are being invited to stand for election and play a part in the biggest charity for children in the world.
UNICEF On Campus Cardiff will be holding a general election for positions within the organisation on Friday 30th April 2010.
The group helps raise both funds and awareness for UNICEF’s work in order to make a real difference to the lives of children all around the world. Money raised from charity events goes towards supporting children in developing countries who are suffering from disease, poverty and hunger.
Alex Leung, the current President of UNICEF On Campus Cardiff said: "This is a great opportunity for students to make a difference and take a leadership role within an effective organisation. An estimated 4,000 children die every day from hunger, preventable illness and diarrhoea caused by lack of food, medication and sanitation and these elections are a chance for students to help change this.
"Students will be involved not only in fundraising activities but will learn skills such as leadership, organisation, team-working and campaigning which really stand out on CV’s."
As well as overseeing the fundraising activities of UNICEF On Campus Cardiff, the new committee will also be responsible for establishing UNICEF On Campus Wales, an initiative that will bring together all UNICEF societies in universities across Wales.
The election takes place on 30th April at 6:00pm in the Aneurin Bevan conference room, 4th floor of the Students’ Union. The deadline for applications is 29th April 2010 and a full list of the positions available can be found here.
