School of Chemistry student Max Feller has overcome fierce competition to win the TARGETjobs Low Carbon Undergraduate of the Year Award.
The award, sponsored by EDF Energy, was created to find students with a passion for sustainable energy.
Out of hundreds of applicants, Max was selected as one of 10 award finalists with other students from universities including Warwick, Birmingham and Imperial College London.
Category entrants were put through their paces with a tough application process, including presentations and psychometric tests.
Max was presented with his award by Sir Trevor McDonald at a gala dinner and awards ceremony in London on April 19. His prize is a paid internship with EDF Energy, a visit to a nuclear power station in France and an exclusive lunch with a station director.
Speaking about the award Max said: "Winning means so much to me because the calibre of the other candidates was so high; I'm overwhelmed by it all and am so pleased all my hard work has paid off.
"I’m excited by the challenge of a low carbon future and passionate about being at the forefront of these changes."
The TARGETjobs Awards were set up to identify and celebrate the UK's best undergraduates in specific areas, like subject of degree (law, engineering etc), year group (first years) or other categories (future leaders, women, commercial excellence). Undergraduates from all UK universities are eligible and past winners have come from over 30 different universities.
Cardiff secured the second highest number of candidates short-listed. Also nominated for Awards from Cardiff were Georgina Ross and Warren Smith both Cardiff Business School, Eleanor Earl from the School of Engineering and Walter Carvallo from Computer Science & Informatics.
